Cultural

Tanzania is one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas on Earth. Traces of fossil remains of humans and hominids date back to the Quaternary era. Nowadays the country has a population of 62 million people and it is home to approximately 125 different ethnic groups and dialects, although the number is difficult to estimate with accuracy since the ethnic groups are not included in the population census.

From visiting the Kondoa rock art sites, aged between 19000 and 30000 years old and an exceptional testimony of the lives of the hunter-gatherers and agriculturalists to visiting the Hadzabe, Datoga, or Maasai tribes, Tanzania is jewel for cultural tourism.

Tanzania also has a long tradition of traditional healing by using plant knowledge and rituals. It was the main used method for healing before Western medicine was introduced and it is still widely used by people today before resorting to more modern methods or in areas where there are no official medical facilities available.

Visiting a traditional healer and getting some knowledge of plants and rituals used by the local people is one of the most enriching cultural experiences you can have while visiting Tanzania.
